When do you give amifostine?
When amifostine is used to reduce the severe dry mouth caused by radiation treatment, it is usually given over 3 minutes starting 15–30 minutes before your radiation treatment.
How is amifostine given?
Amifostine is given in to a vein (intravenous, IV) infusion starting about 15-30 minutes before chemotherapy or radiation therapy is scheduled to begin. Before amifostine is given, patients must drink plenty of fluids. Patients receive this medicine lying down, facing up, and blood pressure is monitored frequently.
How does amifostine work?
Amifostine is thought to work by preventing certain chemicals from damaging healthy cells. It may also help repair cells damaged by cisplatin or radiation treatment.
Is amifostine still used?
Based upon these findings, amifostine was approved for use as a radiation protection agent by the FDA for the reduction of xerostomia in pa- tients receiving postoperative head and neck radiation therapy. Till today, amifostine remains the first and only radiation protector that is FDA approved for clinical use.

How long does Emend stay in your system?
This effect can last for up to 28 days after your last dose of this medication. Ask your doctor about using a non-hormone method of birth control (such as a condom, diaphragm, spermicide) to prevent pregnancy while taking aprepitant and for at least 1 month after your treatment ends.
Is amifostine FDA approved?
Amifostine is also FDA approved for patients with head and neck cancer to reduce the incidence of moderate to severe xerostomia in patients who are undergoing postoperative radiation treatment where the radiation port includes a substantial portion of the parotid glands.
Is Emend better than Zofran?
Aprepitant was significantly more effective than ondansetron for preventing vomiting at 24 and 48 h after surgery, and in reducing nausea severity in the first 48 h after surgery. Aprepitant was generally well tolerated.
Can you take Emend and Zofran together?

Can you take vitamin C with azathioprine?
No interactions were found between azathioprine and Vitamin C.
Can you drink milk with azathioprine?
Azathioprine may be taken with food or on an empty stomach, but patients should standardise the method of administration. The dose should not be taken with milk or dairy products (see Section 4.2).
